I just watched this. Without a doubt one of the most refreshing and wholly remarkable films I have seen in years. Being a huge fan of Spike's earlier work probably didn't hurt, but this movie stands on its own legs. Its own scaly, tree-trunk-sized, animal legs.
It rounds off a decade of spectacular fantasy-films exceptionally well, finally going full circle and returning to the purity and honesty that these sort of films once held, while still portraying humans (or in this case wild things) in a more modern fashion than most dare.
